Email Administrators: Email/Contacts/Calendar Sync

Renewing Your Microsoft Client Secret ID

  • Updated

A Client Secret is a secure credential that allows our application to connect to your Microsoft 365 email account.  Microsoft requires this credential to verify that the connection is legitimate.

Because Client Secrets have expiration dates, they must be renewed periodically. Microsoft recommends every 12 months, but your Client Secret will last up to 24 months.  If the Client Secret expires and is not renewed, the connection to Microsoft 365 may stop working, which can affect your MoxiWorks' email-related features.

Renewing the Client Secret before it expires helps ensure continuous, secure communication between Microsoft 365 and your MoxiWorks programs.  Here's how to renew your Client Secret ID.

To renew your Client Secret, you'll need the Global Administrator or Privileged Role Administrator permission level.

Create a New Secret

  • Log into the Microsoft Entra admin center by selecting this link.
  • Go to Entra ID → App registrations → All applications and open your existing MoxiWorks application.
Don't create a new MoxiWorks app! That would change your Client ID.
  • Go to Certificates & secrets → Client secrets → New client secret. Enter a description like “MoxiWorks”.
  • Choose 24 months and select Add.
  • Copy the new secret's Value (not the Secret ID) immediately and paste someplace to save it.
Why is it important to copy and save this value?  Microsoft only shows it once.

Leave your old secret in place until MoxiWorks confirms the switch.  If you don't leave it in place, you sync stops immediately.
